Return-to-work incentives

We recognize that most disabled employees would rather be working and we encourage them to do so according to their abilities and limitations. Our disability plans may be designed to smooth the way for your employees with disabilities to return to work with incentives built into the disability insurance policy. 

  • With the incentive, during the first year of a return to work on a trial basis, we do not reduce the disability benefit by the disabled employee's earnings unless the combination of the disability benefit, new earnings, and other sources of income exceed the individual's pre-disability salary.
  • After the first year of partial or limited work, only a portion of new earnings is taken into account when calculating the disability benefit.
