Assurant Employee Benefits executives to address international regulator interns participating in NAIC program
Three Assurant Employee Benefits executives will address a group of regulator interns from across the globe in Kansas City today in conjunction with the International Internship Program for Education and Regulatory Cooperation of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
Miles Yakre, senior vice president and chief financial officer; Ken Bowen, vice president and general counsel, and Todd Holmes, assistant vice president and auditor, will focus their discussions on insurance regulation in the United States. Specific topics to be addressed include how insurance companies are structured and operate, asset management, financial guidelines, product development, the regulatory process, compliance and internal controls.
The intern regulators who will attend the presentations are taking part in the Fall 2009 session of the internship program, developed by the NAIC to advance working relationships with foreign markets, emphasizing the exchange of regulatory techniques and technology. The participating regulators represent Azerbaijan, China, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Zambia. Following a five-day orientation session at the NAIC’s Central Office in Kansas City, each will spend six weeks in a host state working in technical areas of their specialization under the supervision of a state insurance department staff member.
