Honoring Perseverance Through Adversity
2012 marks the ninth year of the Shining Star of Perseverance award, which was developed by Assurant Employee Benefits to recognize the challenges that come with disability. Last year, we changed things up and honored one of our claimants, Jennifer Mundl, who embodies the qualities of a Shining Star each day in her efforts to remain at work and to help other disabled individuals realize their full potential.
This year, we again will recognize a claimant who demonstrates the same qualities – resilience, proactivity, conscientiousness and willpower – in their efforts to remain at or return to work. We will choose five finalists from the nominated claimants, then will select one of them to be our 2012 Shining Star.
Assurant Employee Benefits will present the award on October 9, during National Disability Employment Awareness Month, to help raise awareness about disability employment issues, and to celebrate the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities.
We will bring this year's honoree to our headquarters in Kansas City to share their story and, as a thank you, we will make a donation to a charitable organization of their choice.
